What is Rock Music ?

Rock music is a form of popular music with a prominent vocal melody accompanied by guitar, drums, and bass. Many styles of rock music also use keyboard instruments such as organ, piano, or synthesizers. Other instruments sometimes utilized in rock include harmonica, violin, flute, banjo and less common stringed instruments such as mandolin and sitar. Rock music usually has a strong back beat, and often revolves around guitar, either electric or acoustic.

Rock ‘n’ roll was most popular into the 50s. It is essentially based upon the chord progressions and styles of blues. Rock ‘n’ roll came to become very popular in the mid 1950s into the mid 1960s It became the dominant popular style in 1955 with “rock around the clock” by Bill Haley. As time progressed, the nation’s tastes began to change as well. By 1960, many of the early and mid 1950s performers had disappeared for one reason or another, as new artists began to appear; such as Elvis Presley, who offered music of a quite different sort. Some of the more 50s styles were revitalized- brought back for a good while in the early 1960s with dances like the twist, and many new US and British acts, such as the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, and one of the most popular pop groups ever- the British sensation, the Beatles. After the reign of rock ‘n’ roll- a new form of music began to sweep the nation.
